Analysis of multilayered coatings

NCCCM specialises in the analysis of multilayered coatings consisting of elemental and or compound materials. The analysis involves the determination of atomic composition and thickness of different layers and is carried out using α or heavy ion Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS). The analysis is non-destructive in nature and the coatings can be used for further examination. Coatings on conducting as well as non-conducting substrates can be analysed.

Speciation of Chromium (Cr) in water

A method has been developed to determine both Cr (III) and Cr (VI) in tap, river and groundwater with a limit of detection of 0.02 ng mL-1. Cr (VI) is a known carcinogen and effects human health, while Cr (III) is considered as an essential ingredient for improved glucose tolerance factor. Hence it is important to know the form of chromium present in water.
